Wedding Encounters

Those Awkward Moments at a Wedding

1. The Aunty Encounter
The Auntykind are a common sighting at weddings. They are known to savour conversations leading nowhere and ask you all there is to know about you in that single encounter. They expect you to remember meeting them when your age was in negligible values and often point out the obvious natural phenomenon of your growth. Beware of their cheek-pinch greeting.

2. The Awkward Silence
First comes the introduction by your parents to that door ke rishtedaar . Then comes small talk with this relative. This is followed by deceptive abandonment by your parents with the said relative. You may smile politely and casually compliment the weather but what remains is silence…only silence.

3. Free Advice Givers
We all remember that legendary scene from 3 idiots. Free advice givers are everywhere. We all have uncles who suggest we work hard now (phir to aish hi aish hai) or slightly elder siblings warning us of the times to come. If the fates have more gauche in store for you, you might even come across random people trying to strike conversation by recommending the best food stuff on the menu. Like the aforementioned, far and wide is their presence.

4. The Forced Photograph
Ever happened to you at a wedding that you’re just strolling along, minding your own business, when suddenly you get pulled into a photograph you weren’t even ready for. End result: Derp face.

5. The Babysitter
Of course we have a thousand and one rasams, so of course the mausis and chachis are too busy to look after their Chintu’s and Pintoo’s, so of course, since you are mostly found doing a big bunch of nothing and avoid all situations to cause that to change, you got to keep an eye on them. Now, children may be adorable and sweets but they can just as easily be devil’s little minions. They be toying with your phone, asking curious question about the existence of humanity and in general, taking your peace of mind and throwing it out the window. And the best part, you can do nothing about it. You just gotta let them do their thing.

So the thing is, where there is people, there is awkward moments and where there are many people, (like at, say, a wedding) their magnitude is directly proportionate. Take that as a scientific lesson. So, always have your phone to pretend like you’re texting or the correctly timed bathroom break excuse and the blissful idea that after that moment is over, you’ll be laughing over it. Cheers!
